- a) Mechanical servicing of VCB mechanism (manual close, trip and electrical close trip). Visual inspection of all parts. Servicing like cleaning, lubrication. Spares supplied and fixed if required.
- b) Spring charging (manual or electrical motor).
- c) Checking of control wirings.
- d) Overall insulation value (megger value) test.
Tests for Circuit Breakers, Transformers, and Relays include:
- a) Circuit Breaker (VCB closed and open), CT/PT Insulation Resistance Measurement using a 5KVA/230V DG set (Megger).
- b) Operational Checks: draw-out mechanism, spring charging, interlocks, Earth switch operation.
- c) Over Current Earth Fault Relay Primary Injection Testing.
- d) Primary Injection Test of Potential & Metering cores.
'Retrofitting' upgrades technology without replacing the entire switchgear. It avoids modifications in foundation, cable routes, and requires no massive shutdown.
Example: Old MOCBs use oil, causing fire hazards and high maintenance. Upgrading to Vacuum Circuit Breakers (VCB) offers superior arc interruption. Retrofitting MOCB with VCB improves reliability without massive capital investment.

Every four months, a mandatory visit is made by JES to examine every breaker. In addition, emergency call-based visits are prioritized and executed rapidly.
